About Us

JM inspection Services is a full service inspection company offering inspections for all of your real estate and construction needs.
My name is Joshua Marvit and I am the Chief Inspector and Investigator for JM Inspection Services.

I was born and raised in Honolulu, and have been in the construction industry since I was 16 years old starting as a journeyman carpenters apprentice. I have over the last 20 years worked and apprenticed in all of the major trades in Honolulu, Hilo, Olympia Washington, Eugene Oregon, and in New England where I first started JM inspection Services in 2002 providing construction inspections, real estate buyers and seller’s inspections, and insurance safety and claim investigations.

I relocated back to my family home in Honolulu in 2005.   At the urging of some family and friends who had bad experiences with construction projects and real estate transactions, I decided to start offering my services here on Oahu.
I have worked on over 500 different construction projects from large hotels to small cottages, from police and fire stations to luxury mansions, from condos to regular homes. I have built several houses as a General Contractor from start to finish from the raw land to a finished and landscaped house. In short there is very little in any field of building construction that I have not seen or done or have hired a contractor to get done.
I have worked in every construction trade. I have been trained as a plumber, an electrician, a journeyman carpenter, a mason, an excavator, a landscaper, an HVAC installer, and a General Contractor. I have dug ditches, cleaned construction sites, and done every job imaginable to get the project completed.  I know what happens at the jobsite, the things that get done and the things that get overlooked.
I built and lived in a house that I constructed alone in New England, and have experienced the best and worst aspects of the construction process. I have bought and sold several houses and condos both here in Hawaii and on the mainland, and I have experienced all of the difficulties from both ends of the process.  I am familiar with condo and homeowners associations and their policies as well as issues with townhouses and duplexes.
I am here to make sure that you are not taken advantage of. I stopped working in the construction industry as a contractor in 2002 when I became an inspector. I still work on my own home and for relatives to stay current with the latest building techniques and technologies, but I do not offer any construction services to the public.

Any inspector that also claims to be a contractor, general or otherwise and offers you construction services at the conclusion of an inspection should not be trusted under any circumstances. I do not and will not recommend any contractors in any trade.

I will help you to understand the construction process and the best way to select a contractor, but an inspector that recommends specific contractors is not to be trusted. Because you trust me to get you the truth, there cannot be any possibility of me trying to make money from contractor kickbacks or to try and make money from fixing the issues that I discover.

I have seen and been the victim of every kind of construction fraud, negligence, fraudulent inspection, real estate fraud, and deceptive practice. I want to try and help you not suffer the way I have. If a contractor is trying to take advantage of you I will determine that. If a seller is trying to conceal hidden problems, I will find them. If you are a seller, I will make sure that all potential problems with your property are found and give you the best advice I can on how or if they should be repaired.
Don’t let yourself be taken advantage of. I would encourage everyone who visits this site that is buying a property, selling a property, building or remodeling a home to hire and work closely with an ASHI or NACHI certified inspector.

I would encourage you the potential client as I do all of my personal clients to not just consider me, but also contact at least two other inspectors before deciding who you wish to hire.  It may seem odd for me to say that from a business perspective, but I firmly believe that any decision as important as hiring and working with a certified inspector should be made only after considering all of your options.  I want your business, but not at the cost of limiting your options.  I want to make sure that you are 100% satisfied with my work, so contact other ASHI or NACHI certified inspectors and see what they have to offer.  If you do decide to hire me, I want you to know that I guarantee your satisfaction with my reports or I will not charge you for them.
